Ptosis (Droopy Eyelid)
About
Ptosis occurs when the upper eyelid sits lower than normal, sometimes affecting vision and often creating a tired or asymmetrical appearance.
Treatment
Surgical correction lifts the eyelid to a more natural position, improving both visual function and facial harmony. Procedures are tailored to the degree of droop and individual anatomy.
The procedure is carefully tailored to your anatomy and may be performed through a discreet incision hidden within the natural eyelid crease, or from the inside of the eyelid in selected cases.
On the Day of Surgery
Ptosis surgery is usually performed as a day-case procedure under local anaesthetic, with sedation available if preferred.
The surgery itself typically takes around 45–90 minutes, depending on whether one or both eyelids are being treated.
Following a short period of recovery and observation, most patients are able to return home the same day.
Recovery & Aftercare
Some bruising, swelling, and a feeling of tightness around the eyelid are entirely normal and usually settle within 10–14 days.
For the first week, we recommend:
• cool compresses 3–4 times daily
• sleeping with the head elevated on extra pillows
• avoiding strenuous activity
• keeping the eyelids dry for 48 hours
• avoiding eye make-up for 2 weeks
The eyelid height may continue to settle over the first few weeks, and it is common for the eyelid position to fluctuate slightly as swelling resolves.
Most patients feel comfortable returning to desk-based work after 5–7 days, with full healing continuing over several weeks.
